Traces of the ancient Romans from aqueducts to triumphal arches to amphitheatres can be found in many of our cities. This also includes the Limes – the frontier, drawn by the Romans to protect themselves from attacks by the Germanic tribes. This line is still visible through numerous mounting points and runs straight through the Hohenloherland in the north of Baden-Wuerttemberg. As a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, the Limes has not only a historical background but also attracts many visitors to its course.
The best example is the 26th Baden-Württemberg State Garden Show, which invites you to the Hohenlohekreis from 22 April to 9 October 2016 to Öhringen. The slogan „The limes blooms“ can be taken literally, as the symbol of the garden show is the 440-meter long rear sculpture, reminiscent of the limes of the Romans. The hedge from thickly grown blood counts – also due to its reddish-brown coloration – stands out clearly from the landscape. With a total area of 30 hectares, three large areas offer something special for every garden enthusiast. The 300-year-old baroque court garden welcomes its guests with a sea of colorful flowers. Nestled in the spacious Cappelaue is the listed protected farm estate Cappel, which is for the first time accessible to visitors and with its charming Rosenterrassen and Dahlienbeeten invites you to linger. But not only botanically and historically interested gardeners will get their money’s worth, but also families with children will have their joy. In the third area, the river-like Cappelrain, there is a new skating rink. And how about climbing the 16 meter high climbing tower? With his 36 stations, Flying Fox over the ears and a toddler course, he is already one of the absolute highlights of the show. Welted by the mascot Flöhri even the smallest children explore their favorite playgrounds. The estimated 750,000 visitors are not only waiting for the opening ceremonies and floral exhibitions, they can also look forward to around 2,500 colorful events.
